Woman Charged With Kidnapping Her Own Baby After Giving Birth

Some of the stories that I have to write are so sad that sometimes I honestly don’t know where to begin. Stephanie L. Belden is a 35-year-old mom who has been in and out of the news in her hometown of Merced, California, for the past couple of years. Back in July 2015 she made headlines because she allegedly escaped from the back of a California Highway Patrol car while wearing handcuffs.

The cops had picked her up because she was allegedly driving a stolen car erratically, according to reports. And she was eventually recaptured supposedly driving another stolen car.

According to local news reports she has been arrested numerous times since 2013 and has had a string of drug and theft-related cases. Earlier this month she hit the headlines again but this time it was for allegedly stealing her own baby shortly after the little boy was born. Detectives said she could have put her son’s life at risk by the alleged kidnapping. She has pled not guilty to that charge but the reason why she was accused of stealing her own child in the first place is heartbreaking.
