When Aaron and Rachel Halbert were just dating, they both had agreed that they wanted to adopt children. The Presbyterian missionaries felt that as pro-life supporters, they should adopt to prove adoption is a viable option for those considering abortion.
When Rachel was unable to naturally conceive a child, the couple went to an adoption agency in Mississippi, and told workers there they only wanted to adopt ‘non-Caucasian’ children.
Their reason – Caucasian children are adopted far more frequently than other races, and they wanted to give other children the chance to find homes. They wanted to make an impact by giving two African American babies a home, one boy and one girl.
