What It Was Like To Get That “Golden Ticket” The Cast Of Willy Wonka Reunites 44 years later

My favorite is that while the cast-members shared plenty of happy memories, it turns out the film’s chocolate river wasn’t so sweet.

I can not even believe that Forty-four years ago ( I was not even born yet PHEW), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory premiered in theaters and  six of the original cast members appeared on Today to celebrate and share their memories from working on the film.

The group of the lucky five golden ticket winners and one Oompa Loompa ( could not miss one of them) revealed… “We think of ourselves as part of a family,” said Paris Themmen, who played Mike Teevee in the film. “Maybe a bit of a dysfunctional family, but a family really.”

If you were curious what happened to the actors? All of the five children left show business after the film; only Rusty Goffe, who played the main chief Oompa Loompa, continues to act. The best is that the actor who played Charlie, Peter Ostrum, he became a veterinarian.

It also turns out the movie’s chocolate river wasn’t so sweet.

“I’m sorry [the river wasn’t made of liquid chocolate]. It was water,” revealed Michael Bolner, who played the rather large and always hungry Augustus Gloop.

“It was disgusting,” replied Goffe.

And our biggest question… How was it working with Gene Wilder.

“[There were] five kids clamoring all over [him], wanting attention. There was never any ‘please, don’t bother Mr. Wilder.’ ” recalled Julie Dawn Cole (Veruca Salt). “And we must have been pretty tiresome.”

“They were,” whispered Goffe.
