This Mother Wakes From Coma To Discover She Has A Seven-Week-Old Baby Girl

mother wakes from a coma

This is an amazing story! A mother has met her new born baby for the first time, seven weeks after giving birth to her.

Intensive care nurse Colvina Jolin from Portsmouth, England, gave birth to her daughter Maia while she was in a coma, in what doctors have called “an incredibly rare event”.

The 28-year-old suffered a stroke while 23-weeks pregnant and was taken to hospital with just a ten percent survival rate.

“It’s a miracle that we both survived,” Mrs Colvina told the Daily Mail.

The first-time mum was doing housework when she passed out following an intense headache, with doctors later discovering she had suffered an aneurism which led to a stroke.

Dr Andy Eynon, who performed emergency brain surgery on Colvina to relieve the build-up of “massive pressure”, said they were fearful they would lose both mother and child, admitting they had “never seen anyone survive this”.

Mrs Jolin’s condition stabilised after the operation, although she was still in a coma.

Colvina’s mother Sue Walder said her daughter would regularly move her hand, as if rubbing her pregnant belly.

“It is as if she still sensed she was pregnant,” Mrs Walder said.

Five weeks later, Mrs Jolin gave birth via C-section to her first child, Maia, weighing around 3lb.

“In my 13 years of doing neuro-intensive care at our hospital there have been just three cases,” Dr Eynon said.
