8-Year-Old Child Bride Died Tragically on her Wedding Night

Child marriage is a truly global problem that cuts across countries, cultures, religions and ethnicities. You know it, I know it, we all know it. To me, it’s an epidemic problem that needs more attention in this world because it seems to only be getting worse with each passing day.

Child marriage is a human rights violation. Despite laws against it, the practice remains widespread, in part because of persistent poverty and gender inequality. In developing countries, one in every three girls is married before reaching age 18. One in nine is married under age 15.

Yet this story is truly disturbing as no child – regardless of their age – should suffer through this kind of nightmare. As much as we don’t want to read about it (because it’s truly sickening), there needs to be something done about it.
