School Principal Asks Parents To ‘Dress Appropriately’ For School Drop Off

Now, you’re probably thinking that if this was your school and your principal sending out this letter, you might be a bit outraged, but I kind of get where Ms. Chisholm is coming from, especially since she claims that some parents aren’t just dropping their kids off from their car, but actually attending school meetings and aassemblies wearing their comfy clothes!

“We are trying to raise standards and get better outcomes for the children and we noticed a lot of the parents are turning up to school as well as meetings and assemblies wearing pyjamas, if we’re to raise standards it’s not too much to ask parents to have a wash and get dressed.

“I have had loads of support from the community and people saying it’s about time something was done. I have had far more positive responses than negative. If I get the parents on board then we often get the children too and in order to get the best chances for the children we have to raise the bar with the parents.”

I know that if I drop my kids off in the morning in the car line that I don’t care what I’m wearing, because I’m not getting out of my car and I’m not interacting with anyone. But if I had to attend a meeting or an assembly where other people were present you can be darn sure that I made sure I was dressed for the occasion, although I have to admit I have a hard time believing that any parent is showing up to a school function wearing their pajamas and favourite slippers!

Is this principal referring to our beloved yoga pants and comfy Uggs, and perhaps the baseball hat that we like to throw on over our head before we hurriedly rush out the door in the morning? Does the principal just not like what these people are choosing to wear for day clothes, or is this truly a case of grown adults wearing pajamas and slippers to school? If it is, I can totally get behind asking parents not to show up to school functions dressed for bed, but if we’re talking yoga pants and ball caps, I’m afraid all bets are off!
