School Principal Asks Parents To ‘Dress Appropriately’ For School Drop Off

Let it be known that since I work from home, when I wake up in the morning I put on my same Old Navy track pants, oversized t-shirt and warm and fuzzy cardigan and proceed to wake my children up before I head to the kitchen to start preparing their lunches. My husband, who works outside of the home, is always dressed in a suit or some other kind of business attire, and he’s usually the one who drops the kids off to school if the weather prevents them from biking. However, if he has to leave early or is travelling I’ll drop them off, with my hair unbrushed and my uniform of track pants, t-shirt and cardigan, probably with a jacket pulled over top and a pair of Uggs on my feet. Fortunately I don’t have to leave my car to do this.

It seems however that there’s a school in the UK that has seen an increasing number of parents dropping their kids off to school wearing their pajamas, and the Principal is having none of it anymore. In a recent letter to parents, Kate Chisholm, the headteacher at Skerne Park Academy requested that all parents “dress appropriately in day wear” for school drop off.

“I have noticed there has been an increasing tendency for parents to escort children to and from school while still wearing their pyjamas and, on occasion, even slippers.”

“Could I please ask that when you are escorting your children, you take the time to dress appropriately in day wear that is suitable for the weather conditions.”
