This Mom Is Mad As Hell We’re Not Talking More About A Woman’s Postpartum Experience

No one really prepares you for it, do they?

I have four kids. I think I can safely say that I feel like I have a pretty good handle on what to expect after you have a baby. But when I was pregnant with my first child, everything was a mystery. I read lots of books on ‘what to expect when you’re expecting,’ but I never really knew what life postpartum would look like.

Nothing had prepared me for what life was like coming home with a newborn. I had an episiotomy with my first child so in addition to everything else that was happening ‘down there’ I was also dealing with stitches. I was exhausted and run down and my entire body felt like it had run a marathon. Or five. My breasts hurt and my stomach was contracting and I was just so damn tired. And to top it off, I had a newborn to care for.

Every woman goes through these things so you’d think we’d know more about our bodies and what happens postpartum. Sadly, we rarely talk about it.

One woman has decided enough is enough. In a rant on social media Kate Clancy wants to know why we don’t talk more about postpartum health.

Why we focus so much on the health of our babies, and so little on the health of the mother? And she raises some very valid points.
