There are some toys I can still remember very clearly playing with when I was younger. I’m a very old millennial, on the cusp of being a Gen X so I’ve played with both those type of toys. I was big into things like Cabbage Patch kids and the old school Polly Pocket toys. I was more of a Strawberry Shortcake fan, personally, but any of those smaller type toys were my favorite. I have so many fond memories of coming up with elaborate story lines for each of the characters. And feeling super cool being able to close up the scene with those cool Polly Pocket compacts.
They were pretty amazing, but lost their cool once Mattel got their hands on them. The original mini compact Polly Pockets were small, tiny like their name suggested. You know–pocket sized. But once Mattel got a hold of them, they changed. A lot.
No longer were the Polly Pockets mini sized. She could still fit in a kid’s pocket, yes. But we no longer got those amazingly detailed and super small compacts. They folded up with perfection and had everything you could think of inside them.
It was a big upset for a lot of people who missed the days of the Polly Pocket compacts. Then not that long ago it was hard to even find the bigger sized ones.
