Mom Writes Heartbreaking Letter About Her ‘Sunshine’ Babies

Many people may have heard of rainbow babies, the term given to babies who are born after a mother has experienced a loss, whether that be through a miscarriage, a stillborn, or the death of an infant. The term “rainbow” baby refers to the fact that after a storm, and the darkness and fall of tears, there is some kind of hope, like the beauty and color of a rainbow.

Rainbow babies, as many mothers know, are bittersweet, because while they are so longed for and hoped for and rejoiced over, that doesn’t mean a mother “moves on” from a loss or ever thinks a rainbow baby is somehow a replacement for the child she lost. Rainbow babies represent the fact that hope and grief and love and loss can live together, existing separately, but forever intertwined, kind of like the colors of a rainbow.

But unlike rainbow babies, who we are more familiar with, there is another type of baby, called a “sunshine” baby that you may not be familiar with.
