Ok, have we officially gone mad? There’s a new story this morning that says a 9-year-old is facing sexual harassment charges just because he sent a “love note” to a girl in his class.

I don’t know about you or how things are these days, but during my middle and high school years, giving and receiving handwritten notes was all the rage back then. I’m sure kids are more likely to send texts these days, but there’s nothing more exciting than getting an actual handwritten note or letter these days (I’m sure those SAHM can agree with me, especially when it comes to checking the mail daily!).

Anyway, the little boy’s mother told WPTV that a principal in the Hillsborough County Public School District informed her the school would file “sexual harassment charges” against the boy if he writes another note.

Her response, “What little kid doesn’t write love notes?”

ABC Action News reported that a district administrator said the boy had written more than one note, and that the notes were “unwanted,” and therefore border on sexual harassment. The district has a policy discouraging students from passing notes because they can be disruptive in a classroom.

Ugh. I think we are taking things a little too serious here. Children that age don’t even know what sexual harassment is unless we of course explain it to them.
