For most of us, our mortality isn’t something we think about on a daily basis. Many of us dream of living a long life. Maybe it will be full of children. And maybe if we’re lucky, grandchildren. Or maybe we have career dreams or personal goals that we want to reach by a certain age. Holly Butcher had all those dreams, but sadly hers were cut short.
We never plan in our lives to get sick, but sadly it happens. Illness has taken the lives of far too many people. Children and young adults see their futures cut short. Families are left to grieve for the ones who left too soon.
Sometimes knowing you’re sick allows you to see the world in a different way. It allows you to prioritize things differently than maybe you would have if you weren’t sick. When you know you won’t be able to grow old, certain things become more important than others. People and relationships become more important than things and schedules.
Holly Butcher was just 27 years old when she died, but she left a legacy that many twice or even three times her age won’t.
