Hannah Rosalie is one daycare owner who is changing the game. Instead of keeping her babies inside for their naptime, she’s allowing them to sleep outside, regardless of what the weather may be.
For some parents, this might sound crazy and even dangerous to others, but according to Hannah, she’s doing these kids a huge favor.
Hannah, who runs Paddock Cottage in Sussex, says she was inspired by the Scandinavian forest schools movement. The Forest School ethos adopts an outdoor play based curriculum, where play is an essential part of childhood development and is how children naturally learn. In other words, the kids spend the entire day outdoors, no matter what they are doing or what they are learning that day.
Hannah Rosalie loves the idea so much that she’s adapted it to her own daycare routine. For as little as $10 a day, parents trust her enough to allow their babies to sleep outside while under her care. It might sound crazy, but it’s not. As a matter of fact, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary for many parents all across Europe. Parents in Norway and many other Scandinavian countries let their babies sleep outside. And yes they do this despite the freezing sub zero temperatures.
