Just In Time For Flu Season, Doctors Warn About Dangers Of Common Flu Remedies

Not all alternative remedies are safe for your little ones.

I’ve battled the cold several times this winter, but in 2016 I was reminded how devastating the flu can be. There is definitely a difference between having a blocked nose and a phlegmy cough and having all of the above, alongside shivers and the sweats. As a relatively healthy adult that bout of the flu knocked me on my butt and virtually immobilized me for a weak. So I can only imagine the danger it poses to infants and the elderly.

People forget that the flu can be deadly. It’s no joke. And that’s why we’re encouraged to take the flu vaccine to keep it at bay. I completely understand why many people want to shun traditional Western medicine for more alternative remedies, especially when kids are involved. Who wants to give their child heavy duty drugs when there are other options available?

That’s why homeopathic medicine is such a draw. Developed in the late 1700s, homeopathy is a practice using natural ingredients (sometimes made from a plant to produce a tincture) to heal various ailments.

Now the FDA wants you to think twice before reaching for that homeopathic remedy at your local pharmacy. The agency warns that it just might harm your child.
