I think it’s safe to say that any woman who has ever birthed a child is grateful for that wonderful little drug called the epidural. Even if you didn’t need to, or choose to use one, how amazing is it that women have the option? Labor is brutal and grueling and every woman has a different experience.
When I was pregnant with my first child one of the first things I asked about was the epidural. I swear I literally walked in to the hospital asking when I could get it. I knew that if I was going to get through labor I was going to need pain relief and pain management. I have friends who didn’t use an epidural because their labor progressed too fast and I couldn’t even imagine.
I ended up needing an episiotomy with my first and the thought of having to endure that with no epidural makes me shake. Giving birth is no joke. And while some women have an easier time than others, pain management and pain relief in all it’s form are welcome.
Recently one man, who is clearly an expert on giving birth, tweeted his thoughts about the Godsend that is the epidural. Only he shared his opinion that women don’t really need one.
