Social media and apps geared towards tweens and teens are all the rage. My tween and teen sons both enjoy having Instagram accounts (they’re set to private). They are only allowed to have people he knows such as classmates and friends on their Instagram.
While I monitor their accounts from time to time, they do tell me when strangers are requesting to be their friend. These are adult strangers who are requesting. They know to block them immediately. But knowing that strangers can be in touch with my kids frightens me.
While you may trust your kids to use social apps responsibly, there are times when a stranger can appear to be just another child trying to make friends online.
