Trying to explain a household budget to kids can often feel like a futile act. Children want what they want and they want it right now. The fact that our bank accounts don’t always lend themselves to treats or toys is easily lost on them. But the Gruver family learned a sweet and valuable lesson about believing in miracles…and paying it forward.
Sara Moore Gruver was on her last $20 while shopping at the grocery store with her three children. She needed to stretch the bill until her next pay period from work. Kids, being kids, hoped their mom could buy them some ice cream as a summer treat. Gruver explained to her hopeful trio that the cold dessert wasn’t in the cards that day, that she had to make a small amount of money last to pay for essentials.
