Have Bad Breath? 1 In 4 People Have This and Don’t Even Know It

Ever since I gave birth to my boys, my sense of smell is super strong. Or perhaps my sense of smell has heightened because I have a house full of stinky boys!

Because of my special super-nose powers, I can smell things I shouldn’t be able to smell from across a room… like stinky feet, body odor and bad breath.

Bad breath can literally knock me off my feet! Bad breath, or halitosis, is an embarrassing health condition that affects approximately 30% of people around the world. That’s a pretty high number!

People have bad breath from poor dental health habits and may be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath can also be made worse by the types of foods you eat, and other unhealthy lifestyle habits.

Your mouth is a breeding ground of bacteria. There are approximately 100 million microbes of bacteria for every milliliter of saliva and anywhere from 400 to 600 different species.

If you tend to eat foods with strong odors (such as garlic or onions), brushing, flossing and mouthwash will only mask the smell for a while. The odor will not go away completely until the foods have passed through your body.
