If you have school age kids you’ve no doubt battled with your child at some point about bed time. The time your child begins school often dictates what time they go to bed, however some kids are just prone to staying up later than others, while others need more sleep. Plus, if you have older siblings in the house or a busy extracurricular activity schedule it’s often hard to get younger ones to bed earlier than older ones, and some days routine gets thrown out the window to accomodate activities.
One thing a lot of parents struggle with is ‘how much sleep does your child actually need’? I know in my house if one of my kids seems particularly tired one day I’ll put them to bed early only to have them up at the crack of dawn the next day, but if they have a late night due to sports or just a busy day, it’s hard to drag them out of bed in the morning. For the most part I think my kids go to bed at a reasonable time and get the sleep they need, but there’s always days when we’re out later than I would like.
