And The Most Popular Baby Names Of 2015 Are……. Did Your Name Make The Cut?

As 2015 comes to a close, it’s that time of year when sites like compile the lists of the most popular baby names of the year, while also telling us what the new trend in baby names seems to be.

I promise you, 13 years ago when I named my firstborn Sofia, I had no idea that her name would become so popular! But here we are, with Sophia topping the girls name list yet again, followed closely by Emma and Olivia. Jackson is once again the number one most popular name for boys, with many other classic names like Lucas, Noah and Aiden topping the list as well.  It seems the most popular names are ones that we’ve seen for a while, and tend to stay popular for quite a few years, while newer names start to create their own trend.

While seeing that these classic names are popular should come as no surprise, you might be surprised by the newest naming trend. According to Baby Center, naming your child after Instagram filters is becoming increasingly popular! That’s right, I said Instagram filters!

Lux, Juno, Reyes, Ludwig, Amaro, Valencia, Willow. Gorgeous names, right? They evoke a sense of dignified calm, a subtle nostalgia, a quiet beauty, a … popular photo-sharing app owned by Facebook?

Yes, these are all names of Instagram filters and tools that add depth, artistry, and sparkle to lackluster landscapes and washed-out selfies. And they’re becoming increasingly popular names for babies.
