I’m a Canadian who lives in the United States, who had my children in Canada, so needless to say the lack of quality maternity leave in the US baffles me.
I was lucky to benefit from the one year maternity leave the Canadian government offers with my own kids, and I’m always so shocked when I read about a woman in the US returning to work mere weeks sometimes after delivery.
With so many new parents returning to work so quickly after having a child simply so they don’t lose their job, I find it pretty amazing that I recently read about a company that has offered paid ‘paw-ternity’ leave for any employee who gets a new puppy or rescue dog.
What do you make of this?
