Before I was pregnant with my first child I distinctively remember a co-worker at my old job tell another pregnant co-worker that she shouldn’t breastfeed her child. Why? Because that would be downright crazy. She’ll never get any sleep, it’s way to difficult to deal with, it hurts and above all, her boobs will never be the same. I mean, there are things you can sacrifice in this lifetime (like sleep, time at the gym and the pain you go through while getting your eyebrows waxed at the salon) but your perky 34C breasts shouldn’t be one of them. And we all know that things always end up going downhill the moment you decide to breastfeed.
Yet even with all the vain reasons NOT to breastfeed, millions of moms still do it everyday anyway. Why? Because we know that breast is best and that sometimes you just have to invest in a really good push-up bra to hide any and all evidence. Here are 10 reasons why you should breastfeed!
1. Bonding With Baby
All babies need to be held. There is no more comforting feeling for an infant of any age than being held close and cuddled while breastfeeding. And there’s no better feeling in this world than when you cuddle and bond with your baby. Trust me, that feeling turns sour the moment they start asking you for nothing more than food and money, which will most likely happen in their teens years.
2. It Can Work as Birth Control
Breastfeeding can be 98 percent to 99 percent effective as a post-baby birth control option. That is, if you haven’t already resumed your period and you are feeding your baby around the clock.
3. It’s Easier Than Formula
After the initial start up period, breastfeeding is very easy. All you have to do is lift up your shirt and let the little one latch on. No shopping for formula, bottles, and other supplies. No mixing, heating, refrigerating and cleaning up of formula.
